Dr. Kara Maxwell, MD, PhD is on the Basser Center's clinical staff. She's a physician-scientist with an interest in breast cancer genetics. Her major area of research interest is in the mechanisms of cancer development in individuals at high risk of breast cancer.

Memorial Sloan Kettering's Mark Robson, MD, is a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in the identification and management of individuals who have inherited an increased risk for cancer. His research has focused on the best ways to use genetic information to improve the outcomes of those with or at risk for hereditary cancers of all types.

David S. Yu, MD, PhD, is a board certified radiation oncologist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Yu practices general radiation oncology and specializes in the treatment of head and neck cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer. 

Basser Center Executive Director, Susan Domchek, MD, discussed understanding hereditary cancer risk and BRCA mutations, providing a comprehensive introduction for mutation carriers and their families with an emphasis on risk terminology and basic genetic concepts.

Basser Center Executive Director, Susan Domchek, MD, and Justin Bekelman, MD, discussed how BRCA mutations affect men, including an increased risk of prostate cancer. Dr. Bekelman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Allison Werner-Lin, PhD, LCSW, EdM, discussed managing BRCA mutations. Dr. Werner-Lin is Assistant Professor at the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania where she conducts research addressing psychosocial aspects of genomic testing.

The Basser Center's first-ever Basser Jean Bash was held in November 2015 and honored Basser Center founders Mindy and Jon Gray. Over 1,100 people came out to Unzip their Genes and raise over $8 million to support the Basser Center. 

Basser Center Executive Director, Susan Domchek, MD, discussed BRCA mutations and their potential impact on the lives of young women. Dr. Domchek covers what types of cancer may impact mutation carriers, as well as screening guidelines, preventative surgery, and topics like family planning.
