Basser Jean Bash

The Basser Center for BRCA is raising awareness about hereditary cancer through our #INVISIBLEGENES social media campaign and we need your help! The traits we inherit from our family define and connect us in countless ways. Sometimes these traits are obvious, like curly hair or dimples. But sometimes what we inherit remains hidden, like BRCA gene mutations which can increase your risk for developing certain type of cancers.

Celebrities like Ryan Seacrest and Cobie Smulders are helping us spread the word about #INVISIBLEGENES. You can help too by sharing our below video with friends, family, and acquaintances. Visit @BasserBRCA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and share our campaign posts and tweets on your own platforms with #INVISIBLEGENES. You could save a life.

We previewed our #INVISIBLEGENES campaign on November 9th at A Night Out with the Young Leadership Council. Held at the Jonathan Adler Showroom in New York City, Basser Executive Director Dr. Susan Domchek and YLC Young Investigator Dr. Payal Shah were joined by over 130 attendees to honor women's health advocate Alejandra Campoverdi with the inaugural YLC Distinguished Advocacy Award. Thanks to Event Group Chair, Suzanne Zuppello and the Event Group, we raised over $40,000 to support young investigators conducting BRCA-related cancer research at the Basser Center! The campaign officially launched at the second Basser Jean Bash on November 14th at Cipriani Wall Street, where we raised over $7 million to support transformative BRCA research and discovery. A BIG thanks to our co-chairs Mindy and Jon Gray & Shari and Len Potter, as well as our dedicated Gene Pool Committee, and all of the generous supporters.

We were thrilled to honor Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee, and Basser Leadership Council members Raquel and Michael Haas. We were excited to have presenters and performers like Hoda Kotb from NBC’s “The Today Show,” ABC7 Eyewitness News reporter and Basser Center Leadership Council member Stacey Sager, and triple Emmy award-winning singer Rachel Platten. Levi Strauss & Co. generously donated jean jackets customized with the distinct Basser logo, which were sold at the event. View pictures from the Jean Bash on Facebook.
